Beam test results of 3D fine-grained scintillator detector prototype for a T2K ND280 neutrino active target

An upgrade of the long baseline neutrino experiment T2K near detector ND280 is currently being developed with the goal to reduce systematic uncertainties in the prediction of number of events at the far detector Super-Kamiokande. The upgrade program includes the design and construction of a new highly granular fully active scintillator detector with 3D WLS fiber readout as a neutrino target. The detector of about 200×180×60 cm3200\times 180\times 60~cm^3 in size and a mass of ∼\sim2.2~tons will be assembled from about 2×1062\times10^6 plastic scintillator cubes of 1×1×1 cm31\times1\times1~cm^3. Each cube is read out by three orthogonal Kuraray Y11 Wave Length Shifting (WLS) fibers threaded through the detector. A detector prototype made of 125 cubes was assembled and tested in a charged particle test beam at CERN in the fall of 2017. This paper presents the results obtained on the light yield and timing as well as on the optical cross-talk between the cubes.Comment: 5 pages, 8 figure

Proposal for SPS beam time for the baby MIND and TASD neutrino detector prototypes

The design, construction and testing of neutrino detector prototypes at CERN are ongoing activities. This document reports on the design of solid state baby MIND and TASD detector prototypes and outlines requirements for a test beam at CERN to test these, tentatively planned on the H8 beamline in the North Area, which is equipped with a large aperture magnet. The current proposal is submitted to be considered in light of the recently approved projects related to neutrino activities with the SPS in the North Area in the medium term 2015-2020

First measurement of the T-violating muon polarization in the decay K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma

We present the result of the first measurement of the T-violating muon polarization P_T in the decay K^+ --> mu^+ nu gamma. This polarization is sensitive to new sources of CP-violation in the Higgs sector. Using data accumulated in the period 1996-98 we have obtained P_T = (-0.64 +- 1.85(stat) +- 0.10(syst))x10^{-2} which is consistent with no T-violation in this decay.Comment: 11 pages, 8 figure

A new limit of T-violating transverse muon polarization in the K+→π0μ+νK^{+}\to\pi^{0}\mu^{+} \nu decay

    A search for T-violating transverse muon polarization (PTP_T) in the K+→π0μ+νK^{+}\to \pi^{0}\mu^{+}\nu decay was performed using kaon decays at rest. A new improved value, PT=−0.0017±0.0023(stat)±0.0011(syst)P_T= -0.0017\pm 0.0023 (stat)\pm 0.0011 (syst), was obtained giving an upper limit, ∣PT∣<0.0050| P_T | < 0.0050. The T-violation parameter was determined to be Imξ=−0.0053±0.0071(stat)±0.0036(syst)\xi = -0.0053 \pm 0.0071(stat)\pm 0.0036(syst) giving an upper limit, ∣|Imξ∣<0.016\xi| <0.016.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Measurement of K^+ \to \pi^0 \mu^+ \nu \gamma decay using stopped kaons

    The K^+ \to \pi^0 \mu^+ \nu \gamma (Kμ3γK_{\mu 3 \gamma}) decay has been measured with stopped positive kaons at the KEK 12 GeV proton synchrotron. A Kμ3γK_{\mu 3 \gamma} sample containing 125 events was obtained. The partial branching ratio Br(Kμ3γ,Eγ>30MeV,θμ+γ>20∘)Br(K_{\mu 3 \gamma}, E_{\gamma}>30 {\rm MeV}, \theta_{\mu^+ \gamma}>20^{\circ}) was found to be [2.4±0.5(stat)±0.6(syst)]×10−5[2.4 \pm 0.5(stat) \pm 0.6(syst)]\times 10^{-5}, which is in good agreement with theoretical predictions.Comment: 12 pages, 3 figures, to be published in Physics Letters

Apparatus for a Search for T-violating Muon Polarization in Stopped-Kaon Decays

The detector built at KEK to search for T-violating transverse muon polarization in K+ --> pi0 mu+ nu (Kmu3) decay of stopped kaons is described. Sensitivity to the transverse polarization component is obtained from reconstruction of the decay plane by tracking the mu+ through a toroidal spectrometer and detecting the pi0 in a segmented CsI(Tl) photon calorimeter. The muon polarization was obtained from the decay positron asymmetry of muons stopped in a polarimeter. The detector included features which minimized systematic errors while maintaining high acceptance.Comment: 56 pages, 30 figures, submitted to NI

Measurement of direct photon emission in K+→π+π0γK^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 \gamma decay using stopped positive kaons

The radiative decay K+→π+π0γK^+ \to \pi^+ \pi^0 \gamma (Kπ2γK_{\pi 2 \gamma}) has been measured with stopped positive kaons. A Kπ2γK_{\pi 2 \gamma} sample containing 4k events was analyzed, and the Kπ2γK_{\pi 2 \gamma} branching ratio of the direct photon emission process was determined to be [6.1±2.5(stat)±1.9(syst)]×10−6[6.1\pm2.5({\rm stat})\pm1.9({\rm syst})]\times 10^{-6}. No interference pattern with internal bremsstrahlung was observed.Comment: 12 pages, 6 figures, 2 tables, to be published in Phys. Lett.
